McGlaughlin Oil Company
McGlaughlin Oil Company has supplied lubricants from Columbus, Ohio since 1937, and its Petrol-Gel has been in production since 1952. Petrol-Gel is a tasteless, odorless sanitary lubricant made from a high viscosity paraffinic base oil with food grade additives.
Dairies, soft serve shops, bakeries, breweries and distilleries use it on the O-rings, gaskets, seals and valves that touch what they serve. On a draft system, a thin film keeps keg lid O-rings sealing, posts and disconnects sliding on easily, and faucet parts moving smoothly, without changing the taste of the beer.
Why Brewers Use Petrol-Gel
- No taste or smell. It won't taint beer, cider, coffee or anything else on draft.
- Stays put. It resists water, so it doesn't rinse off during cleaning.
- Handles cold and heat. McGlaughlin rates it for 0°F to 185°F, with a melting point of 195°F.
- Food-contact rated. McGlaughlin lists Petrol-Gel as USDA H-1 rated and FDA approved for use where incidental food contact can happen.
Where to Use It on a Draft System
- Keg lid O-rings and the large lid seal
- Ball lock and pin lock post O-rings
- Gas and liquid disconnect O-rings
- Coupler and probe seals
- Faucet shaft O-rings, coupling washers and moving parts
- Valves, gaskets and fittings on brewing and serving equipment
How to Apply It
Clean and sanitize the part first, then rub a thin film onto the O-ring or seal with a clean finger. A little goes a long way. Too much can trap debris, so wipe off any excess before you reassemble. Reapply whenever you replace O-rings or deep clean your kegs and faucets.
Petrol-Gel comes in 4 oz tubes, sold one at a time or by the case.
