How Many Beers Are in a Keg?

There are quite a few different sizes of kegs on the market.  Below are a list of the keg dimensions, along with how many ounces fit into each keg, and how many 12oz. beers that equates to. Also keep in mind that there are different type of kegs closed style / sanke kegs and cornelieus/corny kegs that are commonly used by homebrewers.

How many beers are in a keg?

A standard half-barrel (1/2 BBL) keg holds about 165 12-oz beers, or about 124 pints. A quarter-barrel holds about 82, a sixth-barrel (sixtel) about 56, and a 5-gallon Cornelius/corny keg about 53. The full breakdown by keg size is in the chart below.

How Many Beers Are in a Half Keg?

A half keg (1/2 barrel) holds about 165 12-oz beers, or 124 16-oz pints. This is the standard full-size commercial keg most bars and kegerators are built for — see the full size chart below for how it compares to smaller options.

How Many Beers Are in a 1/6 Keg (Sixtel)?

A 1/6 barrel keg (sixtel) holds about 56 12-oz beers, or 41 16-oz pints. At 5.16 gallons and around 58 lbs full, it's the most common size for home kegerators and small-space commercial setups since it fits where a full half barrel won't.

How much does a keg weigh?

A full half-barrel keg weighs about 160 lbs. A quarter-barrel is about 80 lbs, a sixth-barrel (1/6 BBL, “sixtel”) about 55 lbs, and a 5-gallon corny keg about 50 lbs. Full weights for every keg size:

• Cornelius Keg (Full): 50 lbs / 22.5 kg
• Sixth Barrel Keg (Full): 55 lbs / 25 kg
• Quarter Barrel Keg (Full): 80 lbs / 36 kg
• Slim Quarter Keg (Full): 80 lbs / 36 kg

How much does a 1/6 barrel (sixtel) keg weigh?

A sixth-barrel (1/6 BBL) keg weighs about 55 lbs when full — the lightest of the commercial sanke sizes, which is why sixtels are the easiest full-size keg to carry and fit in a kegerator.

How many pints are in a keg?

A half-barrel keg pours about 124 16-oz pints. A quarter-barrel gives about 62 pints, a sixth-barrel about 41, and a 5-gallon corny keg about 40.
